Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute for the Palo Verde Unified School District. The Palo Verde Unified School District utilizes the services of substitute staff members in both certificated and classified positions.
How to Become a Substitute Teacher
To be considered for a certificated substitute teacher position an applicant must meet the minimum requirements for a substitute teaching permit through California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (see link below). If you have any questions regarding qualification please contact Human Resources at 760.922.4164 x 1232.
Emergency teaching permits authorize the holder to serve as day-to-day substitute teachers in any classroom, including preschool, kindergarten, and grades 1-12. Permits are valid for one year. The holder may serve as a substitute for no more than 30 days for any one teacher during the school year, except in a special education classroom, where the holder may serve for no more than 20 days for any one teacher during the school year.

There are limited opportunities to acquire a CBEST Waiver substitute permit while you are in the process of studying for the exam. For details, contact the District Office at 760.922.4164×232.
Print out and complete a certificated application from the link below. Please include the following along with your application:
- Cover Letter and Resume.
- A current copy of your college transcripts, including graduate and undergraduate credits.
- Letters of recommendation.
- Verification of CBEST (or contact District Office for consideration of a CTC Waiver).
Substitute Teacher applications are accepted at Palo Verde Unified School District office throughout the year. Submit your completed application along with required documents as indicated in the list above. Qualified applicants will be notified for an interview.
All employees at Palo Verde Unified School District are required to complete a fingerprint clearance process. Due to fingerprint legislation, Palo Verde Unified School District cannot accept fingerprint clearance for employment purposes from other agencies, school districts, county offices, or the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. If you are applying for a substitute teacher permit, you will also be required to submit fingerprints to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Substitute Teacher Pay
Substitute Teachers are paid at a daily rate of $100 per day or $50 per half day. Long-term positions are paid $125 per day starting on the eleventh consecutive day of service in the same class.
