Dear Ruth Brown Families,

Welcome to the 2018/2019 school year!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. Hopefully you have been able to rest, rejuvenate and most importantly, spend some quality time with family and friends. I am very happy to be back for my second year as Principal of Ruth Brown. I am fortunate to work somewhere that I love and with people that I value and appreciate.

This year we are beginning the school year a little differently. All PVUSD students will be required to complete a registration packet before school starts. Packets for every Ruth Brown student will be available to be picked up at the school site beginning July 30, 2018. The packets will need to be completed and returned to the Ruth Brown cafeteria Wednesday, August 8th between 4:30pm and 7:30pm. Once your packet is completed and turned in, you will receive your child’s classroom assignment. If for some reason you are unable to make the August 8th date, you are welcome to stop by the Ruth Brown office after August 8th to turn in your packet and get classroom assignments. We suggest you do not wait until the first day of school to register your child. Students without registration packets completed the first day of school will be asked to wait in the library until the packet is completed. If students are not accompanied by a parent, parents will be called to come and complete the registration packet. Students will not be admitted to class until the registration packet is complete.

School will begin Monday, August 13th and the first week of school (August 13-17) will consist of all minimum days. School will begin at 8:20am and students will be released at 12:05pm each day. We will resume our normal schedule of 8:20am-3:10pm M, T, Th, F and Wednesday 8:20am-12:05pm beginning August 20th. Our Back to School Night event will take place Tuesday, August 21st at 6pm.

Dear Ruth Brown Families,

Welcome to the 2017/2018 school year!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. I am Cintia Robinson, your new principal at Ruth Brown Elementary.  For the past 2 years I have been working as the Dean of Students and I am now honored to take on a new role. I am very excited to be here and look forward to an amazing year.

School will start on Wednesday, August 16 at 8:20 a.m. and classes will be posted outside the cafeteria doors on Monday, August 14th at 5 p.m. Our school day begins at 8:20 a.m. and concludes at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday is an early release day and school concludes at 12:05 p.m. We are fortunate to continue to serve free breakfast for all students. The cafeteria begins serving breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop off prior to this time, there is no supervision for students until 7:30 a.m.  

In preparing for the new school year, we have created a suggested supply list and we have updated our Parent/Student handbook, both of which can be found on our Ruth Brown website http://www.pvusd.us/rbes/ and Ruth Brown Bears Facebook page. The supply list can also be picked up at the Ruth Brown office. The Parent/Student handbooks will be passed out at “Back to School Night” which is August 30th at 6 p.m. I hope you can join us.  

I will be having an informational meeting on Wednesday, August 9th at 5 p.m. in Spanish and 5:30 p.m. in English at the Ruth Brown cafeteria. I would like to introduce myself and discuss some of the changes here at Ruth Brown.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION NOTICE

At the request of Palo Verde Unified School District’s Board of Education, the Riverside County Office of Education will host a meeting to solicit input on identifying the essential qualifications to select the new superintendent.  The meeting will be held at the District Office, 295 N. 1st Street, in the Board Room on June 8, 2016, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

If you are unable to attend, a survey will be available on the districts Web site until June 11, 2016. Computers are available at the district office for public use to complete the survey.

Dear Ruth Brown parents,

The first day of school is fast approaching! I am honored to be the principal at Ruth Brown for another year. I look forward to another year of working together.

 

Throughout the year we send home many notes about activities and news regarding our school with our students. For numerous reasons, sometimes these notes do not always make it into your hands. Other ways to stay connected with school news is to join the “Ruth Brown Parent Club” page on Facebook and/or consistently checking in on our page through the district website http://www.pvusd.us/ .

 

Our Parent Handbook is located on the district website. It is a great resource for commonly asked questions. The handbook is currently in revision and should be completed by the first day of school. If you would like a paper copy of the handbook, please notify the office and we will send one home with your child. The district calendar, monthly menus, school board information, etc. are also on the district website. Supply lists are currently posted on our Facebook page and the district website.

 

Throughout the year, a great way to contact your child’s teacher is through their district email. All email addresses are firstname.lastname@pvusd.us (john.doe@pvusd.us).  I would advise you to place your child’s name in the subject line in case the email is sent to spam. This should only be a possibility the first time that you email the teacher or me.

 

Safety is always a priority at our school. For this reason, we will no longer be accepting phone calls to deliver messages to our students regarding change of plans for after school pick up. We can not guarantee the voice on the phone is actually the parent.  We will deliver a message to your child if you physically stop into the office to ask for a message to be delivered. This ensures us that you are the actual parent versus a voice on the phone. I understand that we do recognize several voices and that this is an inconvenience for parents; however, if this policy saves one child from picked up by a wrong parent/person then it is worth it. All three elementary schools will be enforcing this policy for the safety of all PVUSD students. Please make plans in the morning, or if your child has a cell phone text them the change of plans. They will see the message at the end of the day when they are allowed to turn on their phones.

 

As many of you know, there have been some changes in our school district over the summer. On July 3rd, our school board voted to implement seventh and eighth grade at all three elementary schools over the next two years. This school year we will only be adding seventh grade and the next year we will add eight grade. I am very excited about this change and the research suggests that a TK-8 school benefits students’ academic success. I am excited to have our amazing former sixth graders back as seventh graders. The school day for seventh graders will begin at 7:45 and dismiss at 2:05. The lower grades will remain on the same schedule as previous years 8:20-3:10 with minimum Wednesdays being from 8:20-12:05. Don’t forget the first day of school is a minimum Wednesday with dismissal at 12:05. We will be having a short informational meeting for parents of seventh graders on Monday, August, 18th at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria. Please join us!  Student class placement lists will be posted on our cafeteria doors on Monday, August 18th at 5:00 PM.

 

The Ruth Brown Parent Club is in need of all new officers. Our Parent Club has been run the past few years by a handful of hard working parents. These parents run the school store, our annual Fall Carnival, Scholastic Book Fairs, help with GROWL activities, fundraisers, yearbook, etc. Basically they bring on the fun!  Please consider becoming an officer or member.

 

We will also have a few seats available on School Site Council. These parents are in charge of making decisions with our Title One and English Learner monies. This group also works on creating our School Site Safety Plan. Ballots for Parent Club and Site Council will be available during Back to School Night on Thursday, September 11th at 6:00 p.m.
