PVUSD Teachers of the Year

The Palo Verde Unified School District honored the Teachers of the Year from the respective school sites at the Board of Trustees meeting on April 16.

The nominees were selected by their peers. A panel comprised of last year’s winners selected a representative from this year’s site winners to be District Teacher of the Year and the PVUSD nominee for County Teacher of the Year. The Site Teachers of the Year are, as follows:

  • Blythe Middle School – Paula Soto, Physical Education teacher
  • Margaret White Elementary School – Christine Laurin, second grade teacher
  • Appleby Elementary School – Karina De La Peña, first grade
  • Palo Verde Valley High School – Mark Mullion, Regional Occupation Program Agriculture teacher
  • Ruth Brown Elementary School – Stephanie Romero, fifth grade teacher

Following the school board recognition of Site Teachers of the Year, Acting Superintendent Bob Bilek made the announcement of Romero as the District Teacher of the Year.

“All of these teachers belong in the Olympiad of teaching,” said Bilek. “And from this group of special employees, Ms. Romero has been chosen to receive the gold medal. Tonight we salute all of these dedicated teachers for a Job Well Done.”

The School Board congratulated the teachers for their achievement, and thanked them for their hard work.

Bilek told the Board the County Teacher of the Year will likely be announced mid-May.
