Yellow Jacket 5k

The Palo Verde High School Associated Student Body and Blythe Area Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the Yellow Jacket 5K Run/Walk on March 9. The goal of the day is to bring awareness to the many clubs and cultures present at Palo Verde High School, promote a healthy lifestyle, and provide the residents of Blythe an opportunity to interact.

Pre-registration forms are available at the Palo Verde High School office, the Blythe Area Chamber of Commerce, the Joe Wine Blythe Recreation Center, Halby’s and Yellow Mart. The pre-registration fee is $20 for all adults, $10 for any Palo Verde Unified School District student and anyone age 55 and older, and is due to the high school office by 3:30 p.m. on March 8. On-site registration will be available from 7-7:30 p.m. with the cost of $30 for all participants.

The race will start at the PVHS parking lot at 8 a.m. All participants will travel north on Lovekin Blvd. to 10th Ave. The course will continue on 10th Ave. to Elhers Blvd. heading south to Chanslorway. The course will continue on Chanslorway to Lovekin Blvd. and will end on the track of Scott Stadium. Palo Verde High School ASB hopes to make this run/walk and annual event and add it to the many great traditions of being a Yellow Jacket.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Attention Juniors: It’s time to register for the PSAT. The test will be given here at PV on October 15th. Cost of the test is $14, and a limited number of fee waivers are available. Bring your money to Maribel, and then take your receipt to Liz to finish your registration. This is an important test, as it gives you a glimpse of what the SAT is like. If you do well, you could also qualify for a National Merit Scholarship. See Mrs. Bayles with questions. We have 110 tests….make sure you are one of the takers! VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship: This scholarship is available to college bound seniors. The deadline is October 30th at 2pm. See Liz in the office or Ann Lisa for an application. (E. Ortega 9/29-9/30)

The breakfast and nutritional break entrées will be ham, egg, and cheese english muffin sandwich, assorted muffins, cinnamon-apple oat chewy bar, assorted cereals, and yogurt parfait with granola. The lunch entrées in the cafeteria will be Meatball sub, pepper jack burgers, bean and cheese burrito, spicy chicken sandwich or chef salad. At the snack shack, the lunch entrées will be pepper jack cheeseburger, as well as chicken strips and pizza. There is a variety of fruit and vegetable items offered as sides and, as always, choice of white or chocolate milk. 100% juice and bottled water are also available.

SCHOOL LUNCH HEROES!

On May 2, 2014 the Nutrition Services Staff celebrated the 2nd Annual School Lunch Hero Day. You may have seen the staff with special T-shirts on. The Palo Verde High School Nutrition staff along with numerous other schools nationwide got into the spirit and were recognized for their efforts in the September 2014 issue of School Nutrition magazine. Way to go Palo Verde!

Nutrition Services is offering a variety of nutritional and aesthetically pleasing foods both at the main cafeteria and the new snack shack located between the business, consumer science, and science wings.

All lines are cashless, with morning, before-school payments accepted in the cafeteria or drop it in the deposit box in the office. Payments can also be made through www.myschoolbucks.com. (9 photos)
