Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

Greetings Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I truly hope you all have had a nice relaxing summer vacation and are ready to succeed this school year. I am Ms. Angel, the principal at Palo Verde High School. This is my twentieth year as an educator in the Palo Verde Unified School District. I am beginning my fifth year as an administrator in PVUSD and as the 2019-20 school year is quickly approaching, I just want to say how excited I am about being your Principal. I look forward to helping our students become college and career ready.

The registration procedure for every student in our district is continuing this year. All PVUSD students will be required to complete a registration packet before school starts. Packets for each Palo Verde student will be available to be picked up at the school site beginning July 29, 2019. The packets will need to be completed and returned to the Palo Verde High School Gym Monday, August 5th between 5:00pm and 7:00pm for all students and Tuesday, August 6th between 5:00pm and 7:00pm for all students. Lifetouch will be on site for student school IDs. Please bring your student with you.

Once your packet is completed and turned in, you will receive your student’s class schedule and school agenda. If you are unable to attend the August 5th or 6th date then please stop by the office from the 7th-9th to turn in your completed packet. It is highly recommended that you do not wait until the first day of school to register your child. Students without registration packets completed the first day of school will be asked to wait in the library until the packet is completed. If students are not accompanied by a parent/legal guardian, parents/legal guardians will be called to come and complete the registration packet. Students will not be admitted to class until the registration packet is complete.

School will begin on Monday, August 12th and the first week of school will consist of all minimum days. Therefore, school begins at 7:12am and students will be released each day at 11:00am. We will resume our regular school schedule on Monday, August 19th. School begins at 7:12am and students are released at 2:20pm M,T, TH & F. On Wednesdays, students will be released at 1:30pm. Our Back to School night is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4th at 6pm in the gym.

We have added new additions to our PVHS team. There a few new teachers and one new counselor. Mr. Ayala will be working in the counseling department along with Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Fisher and Ms. Sanchez. We welcome Special Education teachers, Mr. Jetter and Ms. Lantz to our campus. We also welcome Ms. Reyes as the new Freshman Seminar teacher. Our new Culinary teacher is Mr. Jon Holquin and we are excited to offer this new CTE program on site.

We have a new school policy in place this year. No off campus passes will be given to students via phone calls to the office. Parents and/or guardians must come into the office to sign your child out and/or issue them an off campus pass.

Positive attendance for your student is imperative for academic success. If a student has more than 21 unexcused period absences in a semester they will receive a mandatory Saturday School to serve. When they have more than 3 tardies an after school detention will be assigned. Students will not be eligible to attend and/or participate in school activities (dances, athletic events, prom, graduation, etc) or sports until they have positive attendance. Parents have the opportunity to clear attendance by sending an email to pvhs.attendance@pvusd.us

As a reminder, Palo Verde has a number of opportunities for parent involvement. One of the most important is School Site Council. The School Site Council will require three parent volunteers and contributes to the discussion on Title 1 expenditures. We will hold key votes for the Site Council at our Back-to-School Night on September 4, 2019 at 6:00pm. Please contact the school if you would like more information about the SSC.

2019-2020 Athletic Registration is open. Go to www.athleticclearance.com  to register your student. Refer to the school website for further information and sports schedules at www.pvusd.us/pvhs
