Teachers and students of Appleby Elementary completed a ¼ acre schoolyard habitat representing different elevations of the Sonoran Desert. A US Fish and Wildlife Schoolyard Habitat proposal was submitted the first year and fully funded. The second year, this project was completed. This involved 3 major weekend workdays, significant time spent during recesses, P.E., and even mornings before school started. This project also involved significant community involvement that included base maps, outdoor seating designs and materials, and significant installation support from local companies and community members.
